Löwenburg

Short facts

  • Bad Honnef
Around 1200, the Counts of Sayn built a castle complex on the cone of Löwenburg - Lewenburg in the Middle Ages - the second highest mountain in the Siebengebirge, as a counterpart to the fortifications of the archbishops of Cologne on Wolkenburg and Drachenfels. From the middle of the 16th century, the castle was uninhabited and fell into disrepair. After extensive restoration work in the 1980s, the remains of the impressive and extensive Löwenburg are now accessible again. The summit offers a magnificent view over the Eifel and the Siebengebirge mountains.
