The Bergischer Weg is Germany's most beautiful hiking trail 2024!

Following in the footsteps of a hiking trail that is over 100 years old, the Bergischer Weg runs for approx. 259 kilometres in 14 stages from the Ruhr region through the Bergisches Land to the Rhine. It starts at Lake Baldeney in Essen, leads through the "Neanderland", through the Bergisch towns of Remscheid, Solingen and Wuppertal as well as the Rheinisch-Bergisch district to the Drachenfels in the Siebengebirge mountains.

Through gently rolling hills, green forests and along numerous streams, the trail winds past small half-timbered villages and important places of cultural history: local and industrial history museums, palaces, castles and churches bring the history and culture of the region back to life here. Along the way, you can experience and discover the history and culture of the region in a variety of ways.

At and near the trails and especially in the stage towns, you will find our "Bergisches Wanderland hosts", who offer you relaxing accommodation and refreshment stops. From comfortable hotels and rustic country inns to cosy holiday flats, from fine restaurants to rustic beer gardens, the hosts are specially equipped to meet the needs of hikers. They fulfil defined quality criteria and bear the "Bergisches Wanderland - Host" seal of approval, which makes them easy for hikers to recognise. Among other things, they provide guests with packed lunches for on the way, provide competent information about hiking tours and sights, transport your luggage and pick you up or take you to the trails.

If you hike the Bergisch Trail and take photos at certain locations, you can collect points and receive a hiking pin. Further information can be found here.
