Welcome to the hiking region “Bergisches Wanderland”!
Gently, rolling hills, meadows, forests and remote valleys with gushing streams, valley reservoirs and small villages with idyllic alleyways and timber-framed houses are typical of the Bergisches Land. A huge number of local and industrial history museums, castles, fortresses and churches bring the history and culture of the region to life. What could be more lovely than to explore this landscape on foot?
You can enjoy fantastic views, experience nature and discover so much while doing so. You are welcome to enjoy some refreshments at one of the cosy restaurants with typical Bergisch dishes, and gather your strength before tackling the next stage of the hike.
This region, with its diversified, open cultural landscape, boasts not just one, but two long-distance hiking trails awarded the quality seal “Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland” by the German Hiking Association (Deutscher Wanderverband): the Bergischer Weg and the Bergischer Panoramasteig. By means of connecting paths, you can expand the radius of your hiking holiday to take in the Natursteig Sieg, Rheinsteig, Neanderland STEIG or the Sauerländischer Höhenflug trail. Bergisches Wanderland also includes numerous theme trails of varying lengths, the “Bergische Streifzüge”, which make historical, nature-related, technical or literary subject matter come alive. Information boards together with experience and audio stations provide lots of interesting facts and figures for hikers along the entire length of the route.
